Our priority is the expression and character of our wines. It starts with respect for our grapevines and the soil, by working the soil for more than 40 years without chemical weedkiller.
We practice sustainable viticulture, by using natural fertilisers and encouraging the growth of hedgerows and groves near our grapevines in order to nurture biodiversity, enhance the landscapes and soil life, and prevent gullying and erosion. The fact that we do not use drip irrigation allows the grapevines to create a deep root system through which the terroir can express itself fully.
We develop our estate with care and maintain a well-thought-out distribution between the complexity and delicacy of our old grapevines – some of which are 80 years of age – and crispiness of our young ones.
Harvesting is done manually exclusively for our Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Vacqueyras and Côtes-du-Rhône Villages wines. We limit the use of sulphite, and we destem our red grapes to produce a distinctive fruity and less astringent red wine.,. Combined with long periods of wine fining in vats, this gives our wines delicacy and roundness.
In the cellar, we use concrete and stainless steel vats, and control vinification temperatures in an insulated cellar. The use of enamelled steel and concrete vats for vinification is done according to the family tradition.
Finally, we think that the earth, nature and the stars are all connected. We therefore bottle our wine according to the moon cycle.
The estate covers over 30 hectares, spread across two municipalities. Eighty per cent of our parcels are located within akilometre from the estate, in particular on the Mourre de Saint-Laurent hill. The last 20% are in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, in the localities of Coudoulet, l’Etang, Cristia and Vallauri – and in the Vacqueyras appellation, in the localities of les Garrigues and Cabridon.
The soil of our vineyards is clay-limestone, with rolled and flat pebbles of varying quantity and size, as well as safre (a soft sandstone found in the southern Rhône Valley) in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The large rolled pebbles of the Rhône and the safre are characteristic of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape terroir and of our parcels in Côtes-du-Rhône Villages. Small rolled pebbles and gravel are characteristic of the soil of Vacqueyras.
The wind Mistral, by drying the air, ensures producing grapes that are healthy and of optimal quality.
Low yields on clay-limestone soils give our vintages strength and balance.
